Not enough "FREEDOM!"...

There's no basis to put "freedom" in quotes as if it was not authentic freedom. There is a lack of freedom when the 3rd party government SWAT team shows up to violently interfere with a private transaction.

As I endlessly point out, MMT depends upon obfuscation and deceit regarding well understood everyday words and concepts.

"Freedom" is one of the most debated terms in the history of philosophy, and it has different meanings in different contexts and frameworks. This is generally dealt with in Philosophy 101.

Yeah Bob that OPEC is sure a “free market!”...

Warren Mosler doesn't use obfuscation and deceit, he says if you don't pay your taxes you will go in prison. This gives the currency its value, or drives the currency, as he says.

If you are a member of a club you are expected to pay membership fees. Well, it's the same when living in a society. But if you don't like it no one is forcing you to stay here, you are free to go. But as we can't cut you off receiving the benefits that we all collectively pay for, the rest of us won't stand for free riders. Pay, or leave, or go to prison.

Now, I don't like partying taxes to bail out bankers, and I don't like paying taxes for excessive military spending. But I'm okay about the principle of taxes to pay for public services.

There is no such thing as pure freedom, except maybe on a desert island. There are always trade offs.

A neighbour once wanted to extend his house further back and it would have spoilt my view. His planning permission was rejected because he was unable to provide enough car parking spaces for the flats, apartments he was going to build. I was pleased he didn't get planning permission.

Anyway, it was his land, so why not? But if you want to build apartments around where I lived you need to provide off-street parking.

Parking is a nightmare in my town, and if houses are knocked down and apartments built in their place without parking facilities it would make it worse for everyone else.

Anyway, my freedom to look at the beautiful back gardens to the left of my house has been preserved.

Just as math is the foundation of science, logic is the foundation of philosophy.

Philosophy is basically about critical thinking and problem-solving.

Children start learning math is grammar school. Is learning logic, critical thinking and problem-solving any less important in life?

Moreover, they are foundational for democracy.

Thinking and feeling are two different worlds. The one cannot enter into the other.

The self has purview of them both.

Freedom is a feeling. Little babies when they sleep look and feel very peaceful, because that is what they are experiencing. They often laugh for the same reason, with no one around bothering them. I know prisoners who feel free and soldiers too. I know monks who feel free and business people who feel free. I know many people feel like they are ‘prisoners of the planet’. Children are generally a lot freer (inside of themselves) than adults. It’s got nothing at all to do with your mind or external circumstances. It’s got to do with what you are in touch with.

Freedom is a feeling arising from the heart. To feel it, means getting in touch with an energy that is already inside of you, and always there. It comes with every breath, beating and pulsing. Kabir said he sat on the swing of breath and it pushed him, did his meditation for him, and he enjoyed every moment. If you can’t feel it, then maybe you should? Matt could feel it and so could Kaivey and Tom (maybe they do) – so I don’t see any difference between them ....

Mind can never be free because it is always restless. Always captured by something. Doesn't mean you shouldn't learn the logic, maths ect required to build an airport (but not use it to destroy a country).

You can lose freedom and never ever get it back ....

Mind is always asking questions; and it generates answers that in turn generate even more questions. So, if you are asking mind what freedom is, you are in for a long lifetime. Better to ask the heart .... :-) ! (The heart already knows).

So, you have to ask the right question to the right entity, then you will get the right answer. Ask the right question to the wrong entity, or the wrong question to the right entity, you go around the sun for seventy laps, none the wiser ...

The little baby didn't even have to ask ....

jrbarch,

I go mindful walking and sometimes I can really slow down the mind to a halt. It might not last long, a few minutes to maybe 15 minutes, or more, until something disturbs it and then I have to start all over again where it might take a while to still the mind once more. I sometimes have to walk for 30 minutes before I reach this state because it's hard to still the mind and also I'm excited about all the interesting thoughts I'm having. It takes discipline to overcome this and then the magic starts. Once I have achieved slowing down the mind it gets easier to do. When it happens it's like the world is new again like when I was a little boy, no worries, no concern, just joy. It's like I'm discovering a brand new world all over again. I envy the Buddhist monks who are very advanced in it.

Correct so let the thinking up to people trained and qualified in material matters...

The world would be a better place if more people knew how to turn down the volume of the mind, simply because as Kaivey says above, one begins to feel the energy of the heart (joy). I don’t think the mind should ever be engaged until the heart is humming away – if you want to remain human.

The more direct method is to learn the techniques of self-knowledge which take you directly inside.

Mind cannot go there, so - and under the rhythms of the self - the heart lights up and the mind becomes still and concentrated, very focused. The self also carries with it knowledge of its own realm.

This is when mind begins to work in partnership with the heart – and not as a loose cannon.

Mind is not your friend. Mind is like the monkey on your back always chattering in your ear; worse, it can take you out into the desert and dump you there. Even trained and qualified material experts; intellectuals. During the GFC (I think it was) there were Wall St. Traders who jumped off their buildings because they thought they had lost everything. That’s mind for you – no idea what is precious in a human being. Mind can become idée fixe (EKH). Mind is so stupid it wants to rule the world.

Many people think they are their mind; and, or the ‘I’ (wave of the mindstuff that exists within it). People try to fulfil the mind or ‘I’. An impossible task. There ain't enough lipstick or $money in the world.

Only the heart can know freedom and fulfilment – because only the self is truly free. For me, that is why we come to this earth - to learn how to be free: – the rest is a distraction. It takes a lot of understanding to know that.

Ergo Socrates: ‘Know thy SELF’. (Not write essays about it) ....
