Reuters — Tillerson heads to Moscow carrying Western call for Russia to abandon Assad

Wha does Russia get in return for abandoning an ally and losing its foothold in the Levant?

Nothing. I thought so. Such a deal.

Why is Tillerson bothering going to Russia?

Oh right, so the US can say that Putin sabotaged the "deal."

This is pure propaganda persuasion.

Maybe he could get Crimea back... he still owes Trump one after buzzing the destroyer...

Current Balance Sheet:

Trump -1 : Putin +1

This would get it back to:

Trump 0 : Putin 0

Which is where you want to work to keep it...

Matt, stop, you're pulling your own pants down. If Russia had a destroyer in the Gulf of Mexico, the USA would do more than buzz it. Anyone asserting otherwise is a moron. If Trump doesn't like getting buzzed he can recall it. Yankee go home!

Trump the great deal maker! Trump's going to persuade Russia to pull out of the Ukraine and "give back" the Crimea, losing a strategically vital warm water port. Then he's going to persuade Russia to abandon Syria to the jihadis, who'll then turn their guns on Russia. Trump can do this because he's a self-proclaimed "genius". What do the Russians get in return? Trump cufflinks? The Trump board game? Trump steaks? Entrance to Trump "university"? Or perhaps Trump vodka, something far superior to anything the Russians have?

Well then Putie Poot can bask in the enjoyment of Nuland and Kagan back on the Ukraine desk....

Trump: 'We're not going into Syria'Trump: 'We're not going into Syria'

President Trump said Tuesday the U.S. will not launch a full-scale war in Syria, seeking to ease concerns that last week’s missile strike could escalate American involvement in that country’s civil war.

“We’re not going into Syria,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business Network.

The neocons are not done with Syria, or Trump. To the contrary, they are just getting started.
